COOL GLOBES: HOT IDEAS FOR A COOLER PLANET
Cool Globes is coming to Washington, DC as the featured exhibit in the Botanic Garden annual “One Planet – Ours!” exhibition.
“Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet”is the brainchild of environmental activist and concerned mother of four, Wendy Abrams of Chicago, who created the project to educate people about potential solutions to global warming. Thanks to the generosity of Ms. Abrams and the Cool Globes organization, Earth Day Network will be able to sell the globes to benefit our green schools program.
The first Cool Globes exhibit took place in Chicago in 2007. Famous artists and children created 126 globes with themes ranging from natural cooling and heating to the student eco-movement.
From May 24th – October 13th, 40 globes will be displayed in Washington, DC and 34 of them will be sold and auctioned off to benefit Earth Day Network's GREEN Schools campaign. Additionally, Miniature Cool Globes designed and/or autographed by a diverse group of people speaking out to promote solutions to global warming, including actors, musicians, astronauts, artists, elected officials, athletes and others, will be on display at The Kennedy Center.
The Globes
Local, national and international artists, as well as school children, designed the globes using a variety of materials to transform a plain white sphere to create awareness and provoke discussion about a potential solution to global warming. Each globe is five feet in diameter, seven-and-one-half feet tall and weighs 2,300 pounds.
