Earth Day Network: every day for everybody
Earth Day 2008

Earth Day on the Mall, Washington DC

On Sunday, April 20th, the National Mall in Washington, DC hosted the flagship event for this year's Earth Day celebrations.

Thousands of people attended the event and enjoyed the speakers and musicians, including EDN President Kathleen Rogers, Blake Lewis from American Idol, Edward Norton, Chevy Chase, Ed Begley Jr., O.A.R., Tom Friedman and NASA scientist James Hansen. The diverse crowd cheered the environmental messages sent from the stage and showed their commitment to demanding action against global warming by pulling out their cell phones and introducing the Capitol Switchboard number to call their representatives or senators on Earth Day, April 22nd.

In addition to the show, there were dozens of booths where exhibitors educated the public and suggested actions and products to help combat the crisis of global warming.

Even though torrential rain forced the event to an early end, Earth Day on the Mall sent an unequivocal message to Congress: America demands tough and fair action against climate change NOW!
